I've been part of thirty-plus exits and two IPOs.

The most expensive thing I ever watched wasn't a deal that went wrong. It was owners who built something worth millions, and lost everything else along the way.

The family dinners. The date nights. The years their friends learned to expect them to be late, or absent, or somewhere else entirely.

I call it the owner's tax. Most of it, you can't get back.

But some of it, you can stop paying twice.

On the fourth Friday of every month, we run a networking morning at Planet Ice, home of MK Lightning. It starts at 10, and from 10:30 you can watch the team train on the ice right in front of you while you're talking.

That's not incidental. It's the whole point. I'm not choosing between the business and things that matter to me. Not on a Friday morning. Not ever. Not anymore. I've built a version where they're the same thing.

No pitch, no agenda beyond the room. Just other owners paying the same tax you are, watching hockey, in the same postcode.

Next one's 25 September, 10:00 to 11:30.

Come for the people. Stay for the hockey.
